- ItemA Systematic Review of Nigerian Articles in Radio Research(Online Journal of Arts, Management and Social Sciences (OJAMSS), 2023-06) Ifeduba, EmmanuelIt is impossible to exaggerate the value of radio in developing nations like Nigeria. It has been essential to national, societal, and educational development. Radio is the most prevalent, accessible, and inexpensive mass media available, especially for rural residents, despite technological breakthroughs that have altered how society functions.This paper examines the research conducted by researchers in Nigeria how radio relates with other aspects of life. The objective of the study was to find out the different areas of research that researchers have covered with in radio research as a medium of mass communication, the research methodology and the theory most preferred by researchers. The study utilized the systematic review and content analysis as methodology for the study. Findings revealed that researchers have focused more on relating radio and health, development, agriculture, education, politics and advertising. The study recommended that researchers should diversify and research on radio and other areas like culture, economy, convergence of the media, sports, climate change etc
- ItemA Sytematic Review of Newspaper- focused Studies In Nigeria(Multidisciplinary Journal of Vocational Education & Research, 2023-05) Ifeduba, EmmanuelNewspapers are the fundamental part of the fourth estate through which information has been and is conveyed. It has been a means to reach audience and disseminate relevant information and news that is either local, national or international. Pertaining to its history in Nigeria, beginning from the time of IweIroyin to contemporary newspapers like punch or the nation, newspapers have continued to have a massive impact on the society. This paper focuses on the 100 annotated bibliography on newspapers written in Nigeria within a specific period of time by researchers. The results of the findings demonstrates that newspaper covers many important areas of which include; politics, security, education, language, crime, management, economy, etc. The paper concludes that newspaper has done basically well in informing, educating the Nigerian audience and most importantly, has been able to uncover some corruptions and scandals through its investigativejournalistic approach. Therefore, the paper recommends that newspaper industry should be looked upon and innovated due to the threats of redundancy being received from the internet. The paper also recommends that government should also empower the industry by promoting policies that will be favor the industry that will bring about the wellbeing of the industry.
- ItemAdapting social media for formal learning in Nigeria: Challenges and prospects(Arabian Journal of Business and Management Review (OMAN Chapter), 2014-04) Sanusi, Bernice OluwalanuEducationist and communication experts have in the past advocated for a flexible learning aimed at meeting individual needs, while at the same time providing both the learner and the instructor the opportunity to interactively relate outside the structured environment. Thus when social media started out as a fun way to connect with friends and families, experts saw it as a powerful tool for education beyond their uses as avenue to socialize. Today, many students and educationists are using sites like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Youtube, MySpace, Flicker, Netlog, Slideshare and tools such as Skype, Ovoo, and Yahoo messenger to connect students to learning opportunities in new and exciting ways. As part of the growing influence for enhancing education, the Osun state government recently gave out smart phone dubbed “opon imo” (tablet of knowledge) to all secondary pupils in the state loaded with several learning materials. Using the exploratory method, the authors explore ways in which social media can be used to enhance formal learning by identifying opportunities and challenges inherent thereof. The authors concluded that social media provide better opportunities to help student take their learning experience outside the classroom to wherever they are but noted that cost of acquisition and sustenance could pose as challenge for those in the lower income bracket of the society.

- ItemAgenda-Setting: A Preliminary Proposal(IOSR Journal Of Humanities And Social Science (IOSR-JHSS), 2022-02-28) Obiaje, KrisThe agenda-setting theory has long been around since investigations into the role of the media in the transmission of salience issues and what awareness it generates plus the priority the audience gives same was unearthed. Three derivatives (policy agenda-setting, public agenda-setting and media agenda or agenda building) earlier identified by Rogers and Dearing have been instrumental to these processes and investigations. On account of the impact of the Internet on the communication ecosystem and to complement the earlier three offshoots, the agenda-setting framework is ripe for additional amplification. And because the Internet has expanded the media ambit and rendered additional platforms via convergence and digitization, a distinct category of media content influencer/source has been birthed. Do celebrities have enough impact on Media offering or salient issues that makes it into editorial content? What do available empirical studies say about the preceding query? Employing causal explanatory research design, while using literature review as a research instrument, this article, therefore, examined the historical background of the agenda-setting theory and the dimensional influence of celebrities in the agenda-setting scope and subsequently developed a springboard for the proposed derivate—the 'Celebrity agenda-setting'—whilst considering its conceptual plausibility which is hinged on the impact of the New Media and audience behaviour. Since this is a preliminary proposition; it is posited that scholars and researchers in the communication ecosphere give this concept further attention and exposition.

- ItemAudience perception of foreign music within indigenous radio programmes among listeners in Lagos, Nigeria(New Media and Mass Communication, 2015) Sanusi, Bernice OluwalanuMusic is the life blood of every radio station. Ordinarily, the listeners should be the focus of every radio programme and their perception should influence radio station programming. However, the continuous use of foreign music in indigenous programming points to a contrary indication. This situation is today a source of concern to culture activists and debates among academics. This study therefore examined how audience perceive the use of foreign music within local radio programmes. To do this, the study adopted the quantitative research method with survey design. A sample of 200 respondents was taken from Lagos metropolis and a specially designed questionnaire was administered on 20 radio presenters purposively selected. Specifically, the study attempted to answer four research questions and the findings revealed that many radio listeners prefer local music, and viewed the act of playing foreign music as unpatriotic and a way of killing local culture. The paper concludes that a continuous airplay of foreign music within local programmes will debase indigenous culture and existence of a nation.

- ItemAwareness of plagiarism as copyright violation with implications for intellectual property education in tertiary learning(Journal of Research and Development, 2016) Sanusi, Bernice OluwalanuNigerian educational system has placed little or no premium on intellectual property education. Consequently, the efforts of both students and teachers alike at scholarship are seriously plagued with various sheds of copyright violation. One that is so predominant yet oftentimes casually regarded, which this work investigated is plagiarism. In spite of the offhanded manner with which plagiarism is committed, it remains a serious copyright violation that has legal and ethical implications. Adopting the cross-sectional research approach, the researchers conducted four sessions of focus group discussion with eight final year students of Mass Communication at Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State and Redeemers University, Ede, Osun State. Each institution had four participants, two female and two male. Their input was collated and discussed qualitatively. A major finding is that there is a gap in intellectual property education especially regarding students’ awareness of plagiarism as copyright violation. It is for this purpose that this paper advocates the introduction and effective implementation of intellectual property education in the curriculum of Nigerian tertiary institutions. This is a pro-active intervention measure that would either eradicate or reduce plagiarism to the barest minimum.
- ItemBook Censorship in Nigeria: A Study of Origin, Methods and Motivations, 1805-2018(University of Nebraska - Lincoln, Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal), 2018) Ifeduba, EmmanuelTwenty-first century Nigeria may be described as the era of democracy yet freedom to publish, which is one of the hallmarks of true democracy, seem to be endangered more than ever before. Conversation around this subject has, however, been superficial, lacking in both historical and empirical depth. The aim of this study, therefore, is to investigate the origin, methods and motivations of censorship in Nigeria with a view to deepening the understanding of this phenomenon. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected offline and online using document analysis and interviews were analysed by simple percentages and the constant comparative method. Findings indicate that book censorship began in 1805, over two centuries ago. Eleven methods, including, burning, banning and bombing have been employed and three major motivations (political, religious and socio-cultural) were identified. This study, beyond the conjectures that make up the literature, sheds light not only on the murky history of censorship in Nigeria but also on the emergence of positive censorship—censorship not undertaken by politicians and religious leaders to stifle free speech but by communities, schools and social media to challenge books with culturally immoral contents. This development promises to strengthen the peer review process to the benefit of all stakeholders in the book chain

Therefore, this paper examines the practice of scholarly publishing, especially scholarly book development in Nigeria. It explores the essence, techniques, challenges and prospects of scholarly book development for educational growth in the country and recommends hybrid collaboration strategy as a means of generating manuscripts for books as well as promoting and distributing them.

- ItemBuilding E-Publishing Capacity by E-Collaboration: An African Experience(International Journal of e-Collaboration, 2022) Ifeduba, EmmanuelThe invention of the world wide web made the internet attractive for publishing, offering Africans an opportunity to publish for the global market. Notwithstanding their e-publishing initiatives, emerging business models and competitive e-collaboration with global distribution giants have yet to be adequately interrogated from an empirical perspective. Thisstudy, therefore, describesthe progression of e-publishing from the perspective of e-collaboration. In-depth interviews, website observation, and survey methods were employed in data collection, and 97 purposively selected publishing firmsfilled out a questionnaire offline whereas online data were collected from 82 available publishing websites. Findings indicate that publishers are building e-publishing capacity by launching websites, e-book clubs and online bookshops, collaborating with global giants for distribution, thereby increasing output significantly. This study updates the history of e-publishing, providing hitherto unavailable information on the progression of digital publishing in Africa’s largest economy.
- ItemCelebrity Agenda-Setting(Corpus Intellectual, 2024) Talabi, FelixThis study builds on the existing literature regarding the agenda-setting theory as it examined the agenda setting and self-salience role of celebrities through their social media updates as they influence the entertainment content of traditional Nigerian newspapers. The study answered one question: To what extent have celebrities' social media updates impacted newspapers' entertainment content? The study employed quantitative content analysis as a research desig, while it used the convenience sampling method to purposively select four Nigerian newspapers where 1,178 news stories were analysed. Findings showed that Nigerian newspapers rely, to a large extent (44.7%), on social media updates for their entertainment news. Moreover, Instagram remained a platform of choice. The paper recommends that since Instagram has become a considerable repertoire of news content, Nigerian newspapers should also pay attention to other interactive networking sites in their news-gathering effort. The paper also suggests an additional adjunct to the agenda-setting theory—Celebrity Agenda.

Cross-sectional survey research design was used. The population of the study consisted of 160,520,993 telecommunications subscribers as at August, 2018. A sample size of 1,200 was drawn, using Krejcie and Morgan formula. A validated questionnaire was used to collect data.
