- ItemAcculturation of Christian Message in Africa: The 21stcentury Challenges(Journal Of Philosophy And Nature (JPN), 2011) Dairo, AfolorunsoThe Western missionary approach to African Christianity was generally done in such a way that African culture and way of life were somewhat denigrated and negated In this approach, missionary Christianity did not develop a relevant theological and musicological link between African traditional religions and cultures and the Christian Gospel. Hence, Western missionaries failed to develop a relevant Biblical theology of African religions, cultures and society. This then made African theologians and scholars reacted and responded to these apparent failures and weaknesses of the missionary approach and legacy by developing their own African Biblical Theology. A theology that is indigenous to Africa, is the one said to have been produced using African thoight, religion and cultural categories. It is a theology produced within context, which reject the richness of the pre- Christian African heritage. This paper therefore made an attempt at examining the challenges facing the 2 r century African Theologians with the view to recommend how best to acculturate the Christian message in an acceptable way for African Christians.

- ItemAn African Metaphysics of Social Order and the Culture of Being-with-others(Innovations, 2024) Fashola, JosephThe concept of Being in African culture encompasses all forms of existence. Everything in the universe is a being endowed with life-force, albeit, not in equal proportion as some beings are more gifted than others. Humans for instance possess more life-force or beingness than any other being in the physical world. At the metaphysical level, other beings like ancestors and deities are positioned in the higher plane of the hierarchy. One important part of this worldview is that all beings both physical and non-physical have a shared existence. One affects the other either benevolently or malevolently, and this interaction is responsible for the sustenance or destruction of the universe respectively. Considering that the interaction of beings including humans is given metaphysical interpretation, it becomes necessary for this paper to examine and establish this metaphysical foundation as a way of engendering social order. It employs Immanuel Kant’s Categorical Imperative which can serve as a principle for social order since it prompts an individual to do to others what they desire should become a universal maxim in interrogating the issue at hand. This is because it provides a means through which we understand and describe humans to be first, rational beings. Some of the findings of this paper are that African metaphysics encourages a complementary relationship and promotes social harmony as well as an ordered society. The paper would contribute to discourse and knowledge of the African worldview as a means of engendering social order.

- ItemBeing and Force; towards a Unified View(LAMBERT Academic Publishing, 2015) Fashola, JosephBantu Philosophy’ is classified among works in the ethno-philosophical tradition; it is the philosophical interpretation of cultural symbols and practices. Its metaphysical content is of value in African cosmology and also contributes to an understanding of ‘being’ in general. Aristotle and the medieval philosophers have given different opinions about what metaphysics is all about. They have opined that it is “the attempt to identify the first causes, in particular, God or the Unmoved Mover. Also, they conceive of it as the very general science of being qua being.” Many people find themselves frustrated by the inability of science to provide answers to some of the deepest questions of life. Sense experience for instance is obviously inadequate in responding to some of the questions that confront man on daily basis. So, metaphysics seeks to answer questions for which sense experience is incapable of providing answers for instance, questions about vital forces and the implication of the interaction of these forces in African world view. Metaphysics is an analysis which reveals the essential elements of reality and what reality must be like for us to be able to know it.
- ItemBetween the 1st and 21st Century New Testament Church: Challenges and Prospects of Emerging Paradigms in the New Normal(College of Postgraduate Studies RUN, 2023) Alabi, Fortunatus GodwinThe New Testament Church is the body of Christ characterised by believers who share a common faith and practice, usually meeting together within an identified community. Within the context of globalisation, advanced information technology, and now, post-Covid-19, the traditional construct of "the local assembly" meeting together in synagogues and from house to house in the 1st Century Church is being challenged and redefined by the threats of emerging global diseases and advanced communication systems in the 21st century. This paper uses comparative historical, literary and hermeneutical approaches to contrast, compare and contextualise the 1st and 21st-century Churches. This paper examines the emerging paradigms foisted on the 21st Century Church by developing global trends and their implications on the Church's ecclesiology. This study argues that global issues (such as the new normal post-Covid-19) influence the universal Church's New Testament orthopraxy amidst unchanging purpose, apostolic doctrines, normative and traditions but developing contextualisation. This paper proposes that contextualised ecclesiology amidst emerging global issues will prevent the Christian faith from antiquing.

- ItemBiblical Interpretation in an African Pluralistic Society: The Contemporary Challenges in Nigeria(Crowther Journal of Theology and Missions, 2016-11) Dairo, AfolorunsoAfrican Biblical hermeneutics as science of interpreting the Bible inAfrican context has its guidelines — African Interpretative Methods and various Interpretative Formulae. These methods are not exclusive of Western methods as they compliment themselves and must be used by African Christian Theologians complimentarily. The use of these methods is not without its challenges because the scriptures are not just ordinary texts but texts which human beings need to understand and the principles of understanding any text also apply to the Bible in order to deal with the Bible as an organic whole. In addition, the Bible must be made to address all human challenges in Africa. To do this successfully, the works of leading African Theologians were reviewed and suggestions and recommendations for better African Christian Theology brought to the limelight

- ItemChristians as Light and Salt in Matthew 5:13-14 and its Implications for Good Governance in Nigeria(Journal of Capital Development in Behavioural Sciences, 2020) Alabi, Fortunatus GodwinThe attitude of many Christians in Nigeria to governance is generally poor and this has always had adverse effects on nation building. Going by its tenets and values, Christianity is a worthy religion whose adherents are expected to positively influence the systems they are part of and so, Christians cannot afford to leave the governance of Nigeria into the hands of others. Unfortunately, Nigerian Christians are, at best, apathetic to political participation. In the Beatitudes, Jesus likened those who believed in Him to light and salt with an expectation that they would have good impacts on their immediate community. Apart from the fact that light and salt are essential to life, they are also change agents. However, as indispensable as they are,. they cannot make any appreciable impact unless they are part of the system they are expected to influence. It is, therefore, imperative that Christians in Nigeria would resolve to be practically involved in the governance of the nation. In this paper, the authors will critically examine the description of Christians as light and salt of the world and, using exegetical and hermeneutical methods, the implications of these to good governance in Nigeria would be highlighted.
- ItemChristians as Salt of the Earth in Matthew 5:13 among the Yoruba of Southwestern Nigeria(Nigerian Journal of Church History and Missiological Studies, 2020) Alabi, Fortunatus GodwinOne of the most difficult challenges Christians face in the home, in the church, on the job, at the school or in the society is living as the salt of the earth. In this paper, attention is drawn to the church in the pluralistic Nigerian society: Challenges and the way forward focusing on Matthew 5:13 where Jesus speaks metaphorically to his audience, reminding them of their identity in the world. Nigeria is a pluralistic society with many religions, tribes, ethnics, languages and cultures. Jesus reminds Christians that as salt of the earth, they are expected to demonstrate the qualities of salt. This study shows that Christians in Nigeria have fundamental roles to play in order to save the society from the present rots. Using Bible to source primary data and published works and internets to gather secondary data on Christians as salt of the earth, the need for Christians in Nigeria to live as salt of the earth in the society that is battling with the challenges of corruption, immorality, religious fundamentalism, political instability and ethnic differences is hereby examined in the context of Matthew 5:13. The findings of the paper show that although Nigeria may be having so many challenges, it is believed, the trends leading to this situation are not without solutions, if the sermon of Jesus could be adopted by Christians. The implication of this is that Christians in Nigeria have the obligation to live out the qualities of suit as they live in this plurality.
- ItemChurch Leadership in Nigeria in the Light of Leadership Qualifications in Timothy 3:1-7(Research on Humanities and Social Sciences, 2014) Dairo, AfolorunsoGenerally, effectiveness of any leader is measured by his ability to gain compromise and dedication to Organizational objectives. Leader must possess the capability to influence the workers to work together willingly with confidence and keenness. These could be learnt, improved and developed. Church leadership is even more demanding and this is why Paul the Apostle in the pastorals lists what should constitute the qualifications for church leaders. But unfortunately, most church leaders in Nigeria fall short of these requirements and yet still glory in being led by the spirit of God even at the verge of making gross administrative errors. This is why this paper assessed church leadership in Nigeria, aiming at pointing out the inadequacies when compared with Pauline leadership qualifications in 1Titnothy 3:1-7 and recommending appropriately
