- ItemAssessment of the Influence of Lagos Bus Rapid Transit Scheme (BRT-Lite) on Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) on Lagos Mainland-Island Corridor(The Open Transportation Journal, 2017) Ajayi, AdeyinkaBackground: This paper filled an important gap in the on-going global assessment of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) operations on Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) safety outcomes on corridors plied. Introduction: The work carried out a scientific investigation of the impact of Lagos BRT-Lite(Africa’s first and only BRT scheme) on the achievement of a possible reduction in the incidences of RTC on the 22-kilometer radial highway that connects Mile12 and Lagos Island the traditional central business district. Methodology: Secondary data on the incidences of RTC on the corridor between 2002 and 2013 were obtained from Nigeria Police. One-way Analysis of variance between subjects revealed that the advent of BRT operations on the corridor do not have any significant effect in the reported cases of the three categories of RTC examined. Minor (p=. 783), Serious (p= .887) and Fatal (p= .826). Data Analysis: Descriptive statistics, however, showed that there has been a general reduction in the incidences of all categories of RTC considered in the period after the commencement of BRT on the corridor. Conclusion: The paper concludes by positing that while it might be far-fetched to imply a direct causal relationship between the introduction of BRT and reduction in the cases of RTC on the corridor, it may not be far to suggest that it has definitely impacted safety outcomes as it relates to RTC.
- ItemImportance of Port-Supply Chain Integration in enhancing Manufacturing Capacity Utilisation (MCU) in Nigeria(Journal of Economics and Allied Research, 2023-12) Ajayi, AdeyinkaThe utilisation of manufacturing capacity at 57% holds significant implications for Nigerian consumers. This paper explores the impact of integrating port supply chains on manufacturing capacity utilisation in Lagos and Ogun States, Nigeria. Secondary sources were employed to collect data on container port throughput (PT) and manufacturing capacity utilisation (MCU) from the Nigerian Port Authority and the Manufacturers Association of Nigeria between 2014 and 2021. The study reveals a positive relationship between Tin Can Port PT and Food and Beverages MCU, indicating that a unit change in Tin Can Island port throughput results in a 35.4% increase in manufacturing capacity utilisation. Conversely, a percentage change in Apapa port throughput only leads to a 0.08% increase in manufacturing capacity utilisation. The findings suggest that port supply chain integration can enhance MCU, provided the policy is tailored to specific ports. The study emphasises the pivotal role of effective policies in boosting Nigeria's manufacturing capacity utilisation, particularly in the food and beverages sector.
- ItemInfluences of Market-driven Forces and Non-economic Factors in the Spatial Pattern of Fuel Retail Outlets in Ibadan(NIGERIAN JOURNAL OF LOGISTICS AND TRANSPORT, 2021) Ajayi, AdeyinkaThis work analyzed the influence which non — economic tool of political patronage and the strictly economic factors of Retail Location Decisions (RLD) exerted in the spatial distribution of Fuel Retail Outlets (FROs) in lbadan metropolis. Multistage and simple random sampling techniques were utilized to obtain information from 254 respondents who are owners/ managers of the studied FROs. A Logistic Regression Model (LRM) examined the relationship between dichotomous dependent variable [compliance of sited FROs in the metropolis to the existing Town Planning Authority Rules (TPR)] and the different independent explanatory variables (cost of landed property, haulage cost, business sustainability and non-economic factor of political patronage). Findings indicated that the predictor as a set truly differentiated between those who complied with TPR and those who did not (Chi-Square = 225.041, P < 05 with df =4). The prediction rate showed that there was 93.5% rate of compliance to the TPR. The Wald criterion demonstrated that cost of landed property (p=.000) and haulage/transport cost (p=.000) both made significant contributions to the prediction (compliance). On the other hand. political patronage (p=.550) and business sustainabi7ity consideration (p=.750) were not significant predictors. The study advocated the utilization of Geographical Information System (GIS) in the planning of urban development for equitable allotment of land use to aid in the achievement of competitive business environment and sustainable urban land use management
- ItemPerceptions of Key Participants on the Influence of Green Supply Chain on Production and Freighting Activities in a Developing Economy(Sokoto Journal of the Social Sciences, 2020) Ajayi, AdeyinkaThe study examined how the global drive for energy reduction and efficient production has contributed to the achievement of Green Supply Chain (GSC) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) in two major production organizations in Nigeria. The methodological approach employed the derivatives of the ontological and epistemological paradigms. For the purpose of data gathering and analysis, the phenomenological school of thought which employed the qualitative methods of in-depth interview sessions and literature were utilized. Production managers in Dangote Sugar Refinery (DSR) and Total Nigeria Plc (TN), two key manufacturing organizations in Nigeria were interviewed on their perceptions of how the adoptions of Environmental Management System (EMS) techniques and staff development activities have positively impacted on the achievement of GSC. Based on findings from this study it is suggested that the two studied firms (and by extension other manufacturing entities in Nigeria) should involve their local Supply Chain partners in the conceptualization and the implementation of their Green Supply Chain protocols, this undoubtedly will enhance the achievement of GMP and sustainable management of their operating environment
- ItemThe Socio-Economc Impact of Crisis and Militancy on Tourism Destination Development in Niger-Delta(Asian Journal of Management Sciences and Education, 2012) Ajayi, AdeyinkaThe Niger-delta region in Nigeria is arguably one of the most naturally endowed location on the African continent, apart from having one of the largest crude oil and gas deposits; it is also blessed with scenic canopy of untainted mangrove forest, innumerable supply of aquatic life stock and rich and diverse cultural heritage of its teeming populace. Development of world class tourist destinations in the region has however remained a mirage due to the incessant crisis and militarization of the region between various ethnic militia who are agitating for environmental friendly oil exploration techniques ( including share of oil wealth) and Nigeria armed forces. The study used primary and secondary data, the primary data were collected through a questionnaire survey of 100 respondents in Akassa region, secondary data were records of tourists visitation to various sites between 2003 and 2009 obtained from the data base of Akassa Development Association(ADA), one-sample t-test was used to analyzed the perception of the respondents on the effect of the crisis on the socio-economic development of the region and its tourism potentials, The one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) also revealed that there was a significant variation in tourists in-flow to the region in the period considered. The paper emphasized the need for concerted efforts that will discourage tension and outbreak of crisis in the region by all stakeholders.
- ItemSocio-Economic Situation and Substance use Disorder Influences on Safety Practices among Truckers(The Open Transportation Journal, 2020) Ajayi, AdeyinkaBackground: The study examined the nexus between Social Economic Situation (SES) and Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and the influence the two exerted on willingness to comply with Health Safety and Environment (HSE) guiding the conveyance of petroleum products among truckers in Ibadan metropolis, Nigeria. Method: Multistage and simple random sampling techniques were utilized to obtain the 265 respondents who are professional haulers and necessary information on the study objectives were obtained through self-reporting designed questionnaire. Bivariate statistical analysis and Logistic Regression Model were also used in ascertaining the existence of relationships among the dependent and independent variables. Results: The result from the bivariate analysis showed the existence of an association between two SES variables of age[X2 (9) 17.05, p=0.04] and literacy level[X2 (9) 41.36 p=0.00] and SUD. While the marital status of the respondents did not significantly influence the incidences of SUD [X2 (9) 9.841 p=0.36].Furthermore, a Logistic Regression Model (LRM) examined the relationship between dichotomous dependent variable (compliance or non-compliance to HSE stipulations guiding the conveyance of petroleum products) and the different independent explanatory variables (Age, Marital Status, Educational Status and SUD). The Wald criterion demonstrated that marital status (p=.000), educational status (p=.000) and attitude to SUD (p=.000) all made significant contributions to the prediction (compliance) while age (p=.861) was not a significant predictor. Conclusion: The study recommends the importance of non-economic factors (like literacy and marital status) in the achievement of sustainable HSE stipulations guiding the conveyance of petroleum products.
- ItemTransportation of Petroleum Product in Nigeria: the institutional, environmental and distributional constraints(Studies in the Social Sciences, 2020-03) Ajayi, AdeyinkaThis paper analyzed the effects that the absence of a comprehensive public policy guiding the safe and eco-friendly conveyance of petroleum products (as part of the safe conveyance of dangerous goods by road) have on the operating environment, in the sub-Saharan Africa and Nigeria. The failed effort of the various institutions that ought to formulate this policy at the regional, sub-regional and national levels and the subsequent effect on safety practices on road transport is dissected. The paper applied the theoretical lens of institution theory and theory of constraint to critically examine the role that weak institutions have on reducing identified constraints associated with the eco-friendly conveyance of petroleum products by road.
- ItemTrend Analysis of Crime Incidences and Crime Vulnerability Differentials on Urban Transport Facilities in Ibadan(Journal of Intelligent Transportation and Urban Planning, 2014) Ajayi, AdeyinkaThere is a noticeable increment in the rate of criminal attacks on transport facilities globally and some evidences of such abound in Nigeria, a most worrisome trend is that most criminals are increasingly finding passengers veritable targets for criminal acts. In this study, the temporal pattern of crime incidences across five selected bus stops and the variables that may likely determine the chances of becoming crime victims in Ibadan were analyzed. Crime records for six years (2003-2008) were statistically and descriptively analyzed alongside primary data obtained through a questionnaire survey of 250 respondents, who were frequent users of these terminals. The result validated the established findings that frequencies and concentration of criminal acts usually significantly differs temporally and spatially. It was equally revealed that criminals seemingly target the more vulnerable groups as victims as the females (of all age groups) bore the brunt of most attacks. It is also discernible from the study that site selection processes for the choice of bus stop within the public transit system is subjective and can aid their emergence as crime ‘hot spots’.
- ItemUber: Examination of Socio-Economic Situation of its Clienteles and Security Components in Lagos(2020) Ajayi, AdeyinkaThis work provided empirical examinations on the determinants of Uber’s passengers’ characteristics and the security components of its operation in Lagos. Two sets of respondents participated in the study. Multistage and random sampling techniques were used in selecting each set of participants. 122 passengers and 69 drivers participated in the study. Three hypotheses were tested, results from the regression model showed the five selected socioeconomic variables explained a paltry 5% of the variance and were not a significant determinant of Uber’s patronage (R2 = .0.55, F(5,117) = 1.27, p > .005). Furthermore, an independent t-test result indicated that there is a significant difference between the perceptions of female passengers and male on how secured Ubers are. Lastly, regression showed that there is a significant relationship between the perceptual beliefs of how secured it operating environment is and the preference for it rather than convectional cabs (F [1, 68] =8.36 P < .005) with an R2 of .11). The paper suggests key sustainable practices that could engender the growth of Transport Network Companies (TNCs).
