| dc.description.abstract | This study examined the relationship between African studies, knowledge recalibration, and state-building through a comparative analysis of Nigeria, Algeria, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Rwanda, the Central African Republic, and South Africa. Guided by Postcolonial, Decolonial, Afrocentric, Dependency, and Critical Knowledge theories, it employed a qualitative comparative design using secondary data analysed through thematic, historical, and content analysis. The findings indicate that colonial legacies, external funding dependence, weak research infrastructure, governance challenges, brain drain, and the marginalisation of indigenous knowledge continue to constrain knowledge production and effective governance across Africa. Conversely, countries that have invested in human capital, strengthened indigenous research, and integrated local governance systems into state institutions have achieved better developmental outcomes. The study concludes that recalibrating knowledge through African-centred scholarship, innovative teaching, stronger research capacity, regional collaboration, and indigenous philosophies can enhance sustainable state-building. It recommends greater investment in African scholars, research institutions, and indigenous governance frameworks for policy development. | |
