Etude Afro-feministe de trop c'est trop de Protais Asseng

Abstract

One of the characteristics of the postmodern African literature is its confrontation,based ondaily realities in Africa.Be it poetry,prose or drama,elements of language used as well as the themesdiscussed often shoo the challenges preoccupying the writers,male and female,seroing as theirpeople's mouth piece.The richmess of the emerging African literature is seen on the basis of style usedby the authors concerned,for the presentation of very significant ideas and themes,which are found inthe text.In the play Trop c'est trop,of the Cameroonian playwright Protais Asseng,which is the textunder consideration in this article,we notice the existence of one of the major problems militatingagainst peace among couples -lack of family planning.Using the afro-feminist theory,we intend tobring out importance of this theme as found in the play.Thus we shall examine the roles as well asspeeches of characters in the play,men and women,to show how the playwright uses his play to defendthe rights of women,andproject afro-feminism in his work,despite that he is a male writer.
