dc.description.abstract | This paper examined Self-Medication (SM) with Over-the-Counter and Prescription Drugs and Illness Behavior in Nigerian Artisans. In this cross-sectional survey, a multistage sampling procedure was employed to select 186 participants from the Ede community of Osun State, South western Nigeria. The artisans responded to the self-medication test (SMT) and Illness Behavior Questionnaire (IBQ). The authors reported a 47.8% prevalence of Self-Medication, SM was also observed to independently and significantly predict disease conviction, psychological/ somatic perception, general illness reaction, and general illness behaviour of the participants. The findings of this paper revealed the need for an increase in public enlightenment, awareness, and sensitization among artisans on ills of SM. Psycho-education among this vulnerable group was also recommended for artisians with severe illness behaviour. | en_US |
