Abstract
In this paper, we considered change in health inequalities among the six geo-political zones in Nigeria. The two
periods of our analysis covered pre and post transition era in the country. Our results confirmed the existence and
persistence of within and between regional inequality in being underweight in the country. We also noticed that
greater variation in regional inequality in being underweight subsequent to transition political transition in the
country in 1999. The regions in the northern part of the country are however worse-off based on our results. We
therefore suggest that the federal government should put appropriate policies in place to reduce regional health
inequality in the country in order to evenly distribute the benefits of democracy to all citizens.
