dc.description.abstractThe rapidly evolving exigencies of digital and global age are part of compelling forces for all librarians in terms of networking environment. Digital age has made the roles and responsibilities of librarians increased in terms of subscribing, knowledge sharing and managing of e-information resources and services. This study ought to ascertains the impacts of digital and global information networking environment on evolving roles of librarians, so also to identify the benefits and challenges created by networking environment. A quantitative research design with population comprising 102 librarians in selected federal polytechnic libraries across the six states in Southwest, Nigeria was used. A purposive sampling technique was adopted and a rated questionnaire of 102 was used to collect data while 98 copies of questionnaire were retrieved and the data collected were analysed using frequency count and mean values. The study revealed that the evolving roles of professional librarians in digital and global information networking environment have changed from old version as a result of digital age, and the finding also shows that digital and global information networking environment has a great impacts on evolving roles of librarians because it advances the use and usability of globally distributed network of library resources and it also allows communication with any professional colleague around the world. However, this study recommends that all librarians should acquire technical skills, IT skills, managerial skills and communication skills to work in digital environment. Similarly, the parentbody should ready to provide adequate and regularly support to provide sufficient bandwidth to tackle network problems and to upgrade the library software for enabling environment.
