Individuals, organizations, societies and nations at large are always confronted by various
political and socio - economic problems. When attempts are not made on time to address the
situations, the consequences is that the problems degenerate into uncontrollable stages and
they render the system difficult to manage. This paper explored the influence of religion on
Nigeria's public and foreign policy making This paper posits that despite the neglect of
religion in the discourse of public and foreign politics and policy-making, religion has come
to be recognized as an influential aspect of public life globally. It is a significant attribute of
public and foreign affairs whose traditions do not exist in seclusion from the political,
economic, social or cultural aspects of human existence. The paper has made use of
descriptive and historical methods to ganer relevant information coupled with secondary
sources which include books, journal articles and other viable materials from the internet.
The paper revealed that the positive values of the existing diverse religions could be
harnessed while the negative values of unhealthy competition and exclusive principles be
downplayed by the various actors of public and foreign policy making in Nigeria so as to
maintain a stable and progressive public and foreign relation in building of strong public and
foreign policies in Nigeria. It recommended the need for national interest to remain pivotal in
the formulation of public and foreign policies irrespective of the population of citizens that
