Influence of Job Stress on Psycho-Social Well-Being of Medical Personnel in Selected Public Hospitals in Abeokuta, Ogun State Nigeria

dc.description.abstract | Stress is an important psychological concept that can affect the general well being and job performance to a large extent, job stress among medical personnel is a common occurrence more so considering the long working hours, strive competition, ethical dilemmas and other factors. This study examinedjob stress on psycho-social well-being of medical personnel, it hypothesized that gender, age and length of service were not significantly related to psycho-social well-being.Survey method was adopted, and the quantitative approach was used. A structured questionnaire was administered to 300 respondents. Respondents were randomly selected from four public hospitals based on level of patronage and services rendered. Data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Results revealed a significance gender difference in psycho-social well-being of medical personnel t (215) =-2.33 p0.05, R=.034, R2=.0.001] as well as length of service [F (1,214) = .282, p>0.05, R= .036, R2=.001] were found not to be an independent predictor of psych-social well being among of medical personnel. The study confirms the existence of job stress among medical personnel, although there are differences in stress experiences bases on gender and job duration, stress is common occurrence among almost all respondents. Considering the sensitivity and high demand for efficiency among medical personnel, more attention should be given to the issue of stress among this group. | en_US |
