| dc.description.abstract | In history and till date, women have been said to play important roles in African society. Apart from being mothers and all the challenges that society throws at females, they have been accredited the strong brains behind the successes of great men in the African society. In the African pre-colonial society, women’s successes were not limited to the home alone but these were also evident in social issues. This conviction is not limited to the written texts, but it is also portrayed through the Nigerian movie industry and producers. This study employs New Historicism in the discussion and analysis of how a man realises the power of women and meets his doom after he betrays them three powerful and influential Oyo Ile women in the Old Oyo empire, on different occasions. In Anikulapo, Kunle Afolayan portrays how a man, Saro, tours from grass to grace and back to the grass, courtesy of three powerful women in the Old Oyo Kingdom. | |
