- ItemStatistical Learning Insights on Nigerian Aviation Service Quality.(International Journal of Transport Development and Integration, 2024-04-01) Alayande SAThis investigation employs statistical learning techniques to analyse service quality within Nigeria's aviation industry, a sector integral to the nation's economic vitality and connectivity. The industry has faced challenges exacerbated by economic downturns, notably the rise in fuel prices and the devaluation of the Nigerian Naira since early 2022. Previously reported customer dissatisfaction prompted a thorough examination of passenger and stakeholder experiences. A cross-sectional survey methodology was adopted, yielding data subsequently analysed through advanced machine learning algorithms. A principal component analysis (PCA) model was refined via leave-one-out cross-validation (LOOCV), an unsupervised learning approach. Findings reveal that crew member performance is the most influential factor on service quality, exhibiting an inverse relationship with other variables in the first principal component. In the second principal component, flight rescheduling emerges as a significant negative determinant. Recommendations from this analysis are directed at aviation industry practitioners, policymakers, and stakeholders, emphasising the enhancement of crew member recruitment and training processes. Additionally, strategies to adhere to scheduled travel times are advocated. These insights are pivotal for advancing service standards in Nigeria's airline industry.
- ItemTime Series Analysis of Crime Rate in Osun State Nigeria Using Skellam Garch(1,1) Models.(African Journal of Law, Political Research and Administration., 2022-04-19) Alayande SAThe manifestation of urban crime and other social vices, causing anti-moral, anti-social behaviours as well as criminal damage to both public and private properties in Nigeria, with the consequential effect of spontaneous and uncontrollable urban growth, high-level poverty rate, distortion of city peace and tranquillity, has become an issue of national discourse. The paper employed ARCH and Skellam GARCH models to forecast the likely crime rate trend within the next five years. The Skellam-GARCH model performs better as a crime forecasting model than the ARCH model.
- ItemUse of Geostatistical Data and Information Technology in Development: FOS Challenge(Nigeria Statistical Association, 2000-08-22) Alayande SAThe capabilities provided by satellite imagery, digital maps, and associated information have transformed our ability to understand the forces that shape the geographical space. In Nigeria, as a developing nation, there is a lack of strong traditions in cartography and mapping. These technologies (referred collectively in this paper as "geoinformation technologies") have proven essential for developing public policies on issues such as deforestation assessment and management, urban planning, agricultural production and environmental assessment. The author found out that geoinformation technology in developing nations like Nigeria is yet unrealised. Given this scenario, the author identifies the major impediments to the growth of geoinformation technology in Nigeria and indicates some ways in which these impediments can be reduced.
